FVS 19: BECOME YOUR BEST SELF THIS 2019
“Work on yourself more than you do on your job.” – Jim Rohn
Hi, this is another edition of “For Value Sake”. A weekly email newsletter, it contains a few articles, a book recommendation, a podcast, and a TED talk. These are the most impressionable resources I consumed during the week, and share them so you can reap some value as I did. The only goal is to add value.
Happy New Year Again! I hope your year has kicked off in style. I hope you have reviewed 2018 and planned 2019, I am still reviewing and it has been a very informative experience, it’s helping me figure the things I need to do more or less this 2019. Here are the resources I used. Resource 1, Resource 2
Have an awesome rest of the week.
AIM HIGH AND DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR CONTROL TO BECOME YOUR BEST SELF
“That means we can’t become great and go out every weekend, watch movies every night, play video games, go shopping, and just hang out on the couch.”
If you want to be special, you have to do something special. You can’t keep doing things the way you have always done them and expect something different. I am a conservative, albeit how much I believe in miracles, I believe more in deliberately picking a future we want and putting in the work and growth to get there. Here are some concrete ideas on aiming and becoming.

ENTREPRENEURS ANONYMOUS
“…Romantic view of entrepreneurs is that it leads us to undervalue their achievements.”
Building a business is hard. I would know I have done it for almost 5 years. But then everything is life is hard.
Must-read for every entrepreneur or wanna-be entrepreneur

GRATITUDE, SECRET TO HAPPINESS
“This is a big deal. Especially when you realize that there will come a day when you will NEVER WAKE UP AGAIN.”
I have a gratitude log.
I learnt this and my life changed forever. Its supposed to be a daily log of what I’m grateful for every morning. In 2018, I logged averagely 5 items, 169 times. Meaning I consciously felt grateful for my life at least 845 times in 2018. No wonder, I don’t know what depression is anymore. Or why I am always optimistic.
This is a great article on the role of gratitude on happiness.

MEET THE RENEGADES OF THE INTELLECTUAL DARK WEB
“An alliance of heretics is making an end run around the mainstream conversation. Should we be listening?”
Over the past couple of months, I learnt of certain individuals who became major sources of deep ideas for me, Jordan Peterson, Milo, Sam Harris etc. They have become leaders of a sect of intellectuals who find our currently regressive left-leaning society unacceptable and speak out against it. Ofcos for the bulk of us who live in developing worlds, we are yet to feel these changes in society much. There is a new name for them. The Intellectual Dark Web (IDW)
You should know about them.

Powerful talk on a man’s journey from being so broken that he lived to break others to becoming a healer.

BOOK OF THE WEEK: 12 RULES OF LIFE, AN ANTIDOTE TO CHAOS BY JORDAN PETERSON
“Stop saying those things that make you weak and ashamed. Say only those things that make you strong. Do only those things that you could speak of with honour.”
Jordan was one of the few people who influenced me last year from his videos and content. He is not a priest or pastor, but he is now my pastor. Very few people have helped me bridge the gap between the things religion teaches and the data science shows. In mainstream ideology, it seems you have to either pick a religion or pick science. Jordan brings a voice to the conversation that answers the questions we are afraid to ask out loud.
