For Value Sake: Welcome to 2019

Happy New Year! May God spread some 6 digit “moolah” on you this 2019.
Hope you had a great 2018 and you are prepared to have an absolutely amazing 2019.
This year I’ll start this edition of FVS with a personal story of why I send out FVS.
In 2018, I sent out 18 editions of For Value Sake email newsletter and blog posts, not cos I like to send emails, or particularly publish blog posts.
It was driven by the philosophy of service and non-transactional value creation.
I have a service mentality, and this drives most of all the things I do and fuels my philosophy for creating value wherever I find myself.
I tried to trace back to where this ideology came from. I can’t seem to remember any conscious effort on the part of my mum who was my sole guardian in inculcating this value system. But coming from a home where there were 2 hours of moral instruction every morning for the first 18 years of my life, I’m sure “Momsy” sure did have a part to play.
The first place I can remember exhibiting this value system was in the “Boys Brigade”, is an international interdenominational Christian youth organisation that combines drill and fun activities with Christian values.
It was there that I noticed my service mentality. “BB” nurtured and cemented this “add value” wherever you are philosophy.
From there, I just never stopped serving at every level I was in.
I was in service positions in one way or the other from secondary school through university till now.
Most of the ventures I have created up till date have this philosophy built in as social impact.
In 2018, I just asked myself,
“What do you love to do that could benefit your friends ?”.
“How can I add consistent value to my network ?”.
I love to do a ton of stuff, but my passion for knowledge far outpaces the lot.
Over the past few years, it has really gotten more focused. This is mostly because I could see the results in my life.
It helped me become more driven, more inspired, more tolerant, more understanding, more challenged, more informed.
As a result of this passion, I am driven to seek out valuable knowledge sources.
But not all my friends have the time to seek out this unspecialised knowledge, so I said, what if in my daily knowledge drive I come across content that could inspire, inform and educate my friends and I share it as a way of saying …
“hey , I care about your future and your growth, and this my little way of supporting your journey”.
I was already sharing knowledge with a few friends in an unstructured format.
So I decided to structure the format and scale the audience.
This became For Value Sake newsletter, a vehicle with which I share a couple of articles, a TED Talk, a podcast, a book, that I curate from what I had consumed within the week.
I send this out on Tuesdays & Saturday around lunchtime to around 200 people.
So far it has had an open-rate of 35–40 %, which is great by industry standards.
And consistently, I have friends reach out and say;
“thank you so much for this”
“this was very impactful”
And some have started sharing things with me as well.
My ask of you is; “In 2019, share”.
I am grateful for you letting me be part of your 2018.
I would love to keep being of your life in 2019.
